Set of 3 Midwinter Sun Coffee/Teacups with matching saucers, Made in England, C.1970s

These cheery stoneware coffee/teacups have bright yellow and orange bands and rustic brown accents on a speckled white background.

The Stonehenge range was designed by Roy Midwinter, modelled by the experienced company modelers Sydney and Derek Machin and was decorated with designs created by Jessie Tate, Eve Midwinter and other graphic designers.
In the early 1970's, Roy Midwinter sold the pottery firm that bore his name to Wedgwood, which has always been considered top-of-the-line in British ceramics. Wedgwood kept Mr. Midwinter on as head of its Stonehenge division, calling its oven-to-table range "Stonehenge Midwinter". The mixture of strong colors beneath glossy glaze, yet earthy feel, was perfect for the times, chunky-looking wares had the appearance of hand-thrown, expensive studio pottery. This appearance was helped by the hand-application of the iron oxide banding on the rims as well as the irregular speckling effect created by adding particles to the glaze.

Excellent condition.
