The shape of the vase was designed by acknowledged op-artist, ceramist and sculptor Fritz Heidenreich (1895 -1966). He was a Rosenthal employee from 1919 to 1960. He always tried to find contemporary ways of expressing his sense of forms. This legendary vase is called 'Pregnant Louise' ('Orchideenvase'). All Rosenthal famous Op-Art was started after he introduced this vase.
This charming vase was decorated and signed by Raymond Peynet, who was a famous French cartoonist hired by Rosenthal after WW II.
He became, quite literally, a household name in the 1950s and 60s when his pair of 'Lovers' shot to prominence internationally and particularly in France. Peynet's pieces are among the most collectable.
The vase is marked on the bottom with standard 'Rosenthal Germany' mark in green dating production to late 1950s. Other marking is blue Lufthansa Airline logo. Form number 2592 and HEIDENREICH are also incised on the bottom.
Both sides of the vase have Peynet's signature.
